MERRAY GERGES

essayist, editor, & teacher
I’m an Egyptian essayist, editor, and writing teacher. I spent the first half of my life in the Arab world, the second half in Canada, then came to New York for my MFA in narrative nonfiction at New York University’s journalism school, where I developed a new body of forthcoming long-form essays. I worked as an editor in DIY and institutional art-publishing throughout my 20s. While studying art history at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, I co-founded and edited CRIT, a free biannual print-only criticism publication, then I held various editorial positions at Canadian Art from 2016 to 2019. I was the inaugural 2019-2020 editorial fellow at C Magazine, and produced three print issues addressing facets of systemic change in the art world. What I most love about making magazines is helping writers write. If you’d like to work on your writing with someone who has equal experience editing and writing, HIRE ME as your editor. I am also available for public speaking, writing commissions, class lectures, workshops, panels, juries and Diversity Consulting™️
